Paris Saint-Germain agree deal for Lucas Digne

Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with Aston Villa for the return of Lucas Digne. The 32-year-old left-back will join the French capital club on a three-year deal, according to L'Équipe and Fabrizio Romano. The France international leaves England after just four seasons at Villa.

Experienced profile to back up Nuno Mendes

Digne arrives with 63 caps for France and a strong reputation in the Premier League. Paris Saint-Germain are banking on his experience to support Nuno Mendes, one of the world's best left-backs. The club activated the player's release clause, valued at under €10 million. Aston Villa lose a key figure, already deprived of Youri Tielemans, who joined Manchester United the same day.

A return to Paris Saint-Germain after seven years away

The defender first played for Paris Saint-Germain between 2013 and 2016, before a loan spell at AS Roma in his final season. He then joined FC Barcelona for €16 million in 2016, and Everton two years later for an additional €4 million. His time in England confirmed his status as a reliable left-back, enough to convince Aston Villa to pay €30 million for him in 2022.

A win-win deal for both clubs

For Paris Saint-Germain, Digne adds depth to an already strong defensive sector. The club is counting on a player familiar with Ligue 1, capable of covering the left flank when needed. Aston Villa, meanwhile, record another major departure after Tielemans, but free up funds to strengthen their squad.
