Paris Saint-Germain have extended the contracts of Lucas Beraldo and Senny Mayulu until 2026. The announcement was made this weekend ahead of the Ligue 1 match against Monaco, as reported by TopMercato.
The capital club has secured the long-term futures of two of its young talents. Brazilian centre-back Lucas Beraldo and French midfielder Senny Mayulu are now tied to Paris Saint-Germain until June 30, 2031. This double signing comes as the club also extended the deals of manager Luis Enrique, Fabian Ruiz, Willian Pacho and Joao Neves.
Why extend two fringe players?
The decision may seem surprising given the limited playing time for both this season. Neither Beraldo nor Mayulu featured in the defeat to Monaco on Friday. The Brazilian, deployed as a holding midfielder by Luis Enrique, is currently behind Willian Pacho and Marquinhos in the central defensive pecking order. Mayulu operates in a highly competitive midfield area alongside players like Warren Zaïre-Emery and Manuel Ugarte. Their current squad status can be checked on our squad page.
Despite this, the Parisian hierarchy sees long-term potential. By securing their contracts well beyond the original expiry dates, Paris Saint-Germain also protects its financial interests. Beraldo, whose deal was ending in 2028, and Mayulu, contracted until 2027, represented a risk of leaving on a free transfer.
What is Paris Saint-Germain's asset management strategy?
These extensions give the club full control over the players' destinies in the transfer market. According to TopMercato, Paris Saint-Germain turned down a €30 million offer from Newcastle for Lucas Beraldo this summer. His current market value is estimated at €22 million. With a contract extended by three years, the club can now demand a significantly higher fee if a sale materialises.
The case of Senny Mayulu is similar. The 20-year-old academy graduate was being tracked by Bayern Munich and Chelsea. His value is set at €40 million. By tying him down until 2031, Paris Saint-Germain ensures they won't lose him for free and sees his potential price tag rise. The double Champions League holders thus perfectly control the timing of any future negotiation.
Where do Beraldo and Mayulu fit in the sporting project?
Luis Enrique is betting on youth and building a durable core. The gradual integration of Beraldo and Mayulu fits this philosophy. Beraldo has already had spells in the starting lineup, notably in the Champions Trophy against Lens and in Ligue 1 against LOSC. Mayulu is still waiting for his first start this season but enjoys the staff's trust.
Their development will be important for squad depth, especially with a busy schedule in Ligue 1 and European competition. The team's performances and title race can be followed via our standings page. Managing their minutes will be a balancing act for the Spanish coach, who must also integrate returns from potential injuries listed on our injuries page.
The next opportunity for both players to state their case will be the league match against Olympique Lyonnais, scheduled for next weekend. Paris Saint-Germain will approach that fixture at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
