Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Zion Suzuki, per Italian media
Paris Saint-Germain has set its sights on Zion Suzuki this summer. The 23-year-old Japanese goalkeeper, who impressed at the 2026 World Cup with Japan, is now being monitored closely by the Parisian club, according to today’s edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport.
A hotly contested profile on the market Suzuki, who plays for Parma in Serie A, is valued between €30 and €35 million. The Tokyo-born keeper has already drawn interest from Aston Villa, who see him as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martínez, while Leeds United has made enquiries. But the most advanced lead points to Paris Saint-Germain, which has entered the race for his signature.
A settled hierarchy, but opportunities remain
In Paris, the competition in goal is fierce. Lucas Chevalier, signed last summer and under contract until 2030, is the club’s clear first choice. The former Lille man has never expressed a desire to leave and has even grown in stature in the second half of last season, to the point that the club has no intention of letting him go. Matvey Safonov, the undisputed starter after a decisive 2025-26 campaign, and Alessandro Longoni, the 18-year-old Italian goalkeeper who arrived this summer, round out an already solid hierarchy.
Yet Paris Saint-Germain keeps an eye on young talent. Renato Marin’s loan departure to CD Nacional has freed up a spot, and the club is monitoring several high-potential profiles. Suzuki is among them, despite his age and status as an established goalkeeper.
Why Suzuki could appeal to Paris Saint-Germain?
The Japanese keeper shone at the 2026 World Cup, where he was one of the tournament’s standout performers. His profile fits the club’s strategy: a young but already top-level goalkeeper capable of eventually replacing Safonov. His price tag, between €30 and €35 million, remains steep, but Paris Saint-Germain has already spent similar sums on goalkeepers in recent years.
A tight race awaits
Aston Villa, Leeds United and now Paris Saint-Germain: Suzuki is one of the most sought-after goalkeepers of this summer. The Parisian club will need to move fast if it wants to fend off its rivals, especially since the player is under contract until 2027. A concrete offer could arrive in the coming days, according to Italian reports.
