Monaco has continued its strong start to pre-season training by winning its second friendly match, defeating Getafe with a 1-0 victory at the Stade Louis-II on Thursday evening. This win follows a 2-2 draw against Cercle Bruges and comes after losses to Sporting (0-2) and an initial win over Saint-Priest (5-2). The match saw Monaco’s German player Paris Brunner make his debut by scoring the only goal of the game from a penalty. Getafe was penalized for a handball in the 65th minute, leading to Brunner's decisive strike.
Monaco faced significant adversity late in the match when Christian Mawissa was sent off, reducing the team to ten men. However, Monaco managed to hold its ground and avoid any further complications. The last-minute intervention by Philipp Köhn on Ebrahima Drammeh Jaiteh's shot from just outside the penalty area (85th minute) ensured that the match remained within bounds.
Despite being down a man for the final stages, Filipe Luis expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and preparation. The squad will now head to an England training camp from August 9 to 14, culminating in a friendly against Liverpool on Sunday at 3:30 PM.
